Presentations
- Felix De La Iglesia, M.D., President of Science and Strategy at MITRI, was invited to speak at "Successful Exits", an event organized by BioArbor (http://www.bioarbor.com/), a life science entrepreneurial networking forum. Felix describes how, as CSO/Founder, he led two start-ups to successful exits: one as an acquisition and one as IPO. View this "Successful Exits" September 2009 presentation.
- At the invitation of Dr. Craig Marcus, professor and Head of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology at of Oregon State University (http://emt.oregonstate.edu/), Dr. Bleavins was a guest lecturer in May 2009. He gave the talk "Getting to that Little Pill: Blue or Otherwise" to provide an overview of the drug development process and some of the realities involved in bringing a new molecule from idea to registration.
- Michael R. Bleavins, Ph.D., President of the MITRI Laboratory Center, was invited to speak on "Defining the Human Relevance of Preclinical Data" at the 2008 American Association for Clinical Chemistry (http://www.aacc.org/Pages/default.aspx) annual meeting in Washington, D.C. This presentation used specific biomarker examples to provide an overview of using biomarkers in drug development, challenges of translation, and decision making.
- The presentation "Omics and the Search for Improved Biomarkers" was given by Dr. Bleavins at the 2007 Pharmaceutical Sciences World Congress in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This meeting is an annual event sponsored by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (http://www.fip.org/www/) which globally represents pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientist.
- Dr. Bleavins gave the invited talk "Use of Biomarkers in Early Evaluations of Safety" at SCIpharm 2006 in Edinburgh, Scotland. This international, not-for-profit conference, is run by the Society of Chemical Industry (http://www.soci.org/) for chemists and biologists in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and research institutes.
- At the invitation of Dr. Ikuro Horii (Pfizer-Japan), Dr. Bleavins presented the talk "Developing New Biomarkers of Toxicity for Clinical Trials" at the 2004 Japanese Society of Toxicology (http://www.jsot.gr.jp/english/index.html) in Osaka, Japan. This presentation utilized several biomarker development projects that were translated to clinical trials to advance new drug molecules.
- David G. Pegg, Ph.D., Pfizer Global Research and Development, currently President of the MITRI Technical Center, organized and participated in the symposium entitled "Mode of Action Associated with Induction of Endothelial Cell Tumors - Hemangiosarcoma" and spoke on "Epigenetic Mode of Action Associated with Induction of Hemangiosarcoma in Mice" at the 2006, 45th Annual Meeting of the Society of Toxicology in San Diego, CA (http://www.toxicology.org/). This symposium addressed current concepts in classification and genesis of endothelial tumors in animals and man.
- Dr. Pegg was invited to speak on "Innovative Approaches to Nonclinical Development and Risk Management of Novel Pharmaceutical Agents" at the University of Michigan Medical School (http://www.med.umich.edu/medschool/), Department of Pharmacology (http://sitemaker.umich.edu/pharmacology/pharmacology_at_um) in Ann Arbor, MI on January 10, 2007. The presentation addressed regulatory requirements and expedited approaches to first in human clinical trials.
- Dr. Pegg, while employed by Pfizer Global Research and Development, was invited to speak on "Epigenetic Mode of Action Associated with Induction of Hemangiosarcoma in Mice" at the 19th Annual Euro Meeting of the Drug Information Association (http://www.diahome.org/DIAHOME/Home.aspx), Vienna, Austria on March 28, 2007. This presentation detailed a novel, non-genetic, species specific mechanism of drug-induced formation of hemangiosarcoma in multiple organs.
- Dr. Pegg was invited to present "Enabling Technologies for Key Decision-Making in Early Clinical Trials" at the 2nd Joint Annual Meeting of AGAH Germany (http://www.agah.info/gesellschaft/aktuelles.html) and Le Club Phase 1 (France; http://www.clubphase1.fr/) - Positioning Human Pharmacology for the Future, Bad Homburg, Germany, April 26, 2007. This presentation addressed novel approaches arising from development of the exploratory IND concept in the U.S.
